Making Your Mark: How God’s Goodness Guides Us to Make a Difference
Deep down, most of us want our lives to count—to matter—to make a difference. We want to make our mark on the world, leaving it a better place because we were here, because we leaned in, because we cared.
But if you ask someone at random, “What is the greatest good for the world?” the responses will vary. Some might say personal happiness is what will make the world a better place—others might answer that a reformed justice system, individual freedom, or economic stability are what’s needed to help our world thrive.
The Greatest Good for the World: God
You might be wondering: does the Bible say anything about what is good for the world? And can we as Christians do anything about it?
In Psalm 119:68, the psalmist says to God, “You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.”
Every bit of God’s nature and character is good and defines goodness. His intent, words, and actions flow from His perfect nature. If this is true about God, then His Word is a great place to start when considering how to promote the welfare of our world.
In our Planted study “Citizenship,” we’ll reflect on the unique time and place in which we live. We’ll look at the good work that God has done, is doing, and will do. He has called us as His people to help the world flourish—to thrive, prosper, and grow.
